Cup Cozy Giveaway!!

Tis time for another giveaway on this here blog.

This time I’m featuring my buddy Melinda and her shop called Vivid Texture.  She’ll be giving this original handmade Cup Cozy to one lucky winner.  She also writes a blog here.

What’s a Cup Cozy?  This is a Cup Cozy:

il_430xN_83065822

Here’s Melinda’s description of her creation:

Cup Cozy with Needle Felted Polka Dots

This grass green cup cozy is adorned with blue polka dots, which were added using the technique of needle felting. Needle felting is a process of stabbing wool with barbed needles to interlock the fibers.

The green felt comes from an upcycled, wool sweater. The top of the cozy has two layers to keep beverage toasty, and features a vintage button for pulling the cozy off of your cup.

About Cup Cozies:

Felt is a great insulator and will keep your hot beverages hot! I made my first one on a whim and loved how it kept my tea warm while it steeped.

Why a cup cozy?
A cup cozy will keep your tea or coffee hot while you are setting-up your work for the day, taking a shower, or whatever pulls you away from that steaming cup. Don’t be disappointed by lukewarm, keep it hot with a cup cozy!

Care:
Air dry after each use. Hand wash with cool water, or machine wash on gentlest cycle, cold water. Air dry.

The rules of entry:

1.  Head to Melinda’s shopand peruse her awesome products.  She does a great job in repurposing old materials and making new, functional items that are excellent quality and inexpensive.

2.  Leave me a comment with your favorite item.  My favorite item is this egg cup pin cushion!

3.  I will pick the winner using the trusty Random Numbers Generator on Wednesday, August 12th at noon Central Time Zone.

That’s it!  Good luck!

Old But New Giveaway

Today, for my 200th post (please, please, hold your applause) I am going to do a giveaway featuring my buddy and pal, Samantha of Old But New! She blogs, she makes one of a kind jewelry, she eats ice cream sundaes…she does it all.  I asked Sam to type up a little bio about herself:

My name is Samantha Leonard and as I always say, I make pretty things from old things.  From a very young age, my grandfather and mother would take me out shopping from garage sale to garage sale on Saturday mornings, so I learned early on the value and beauty that can be found in other peoples castaways.

My favorite things to make are bracelets out of vintage brass fishing swivels, I love that you can take something as plain and industrial as that, and transform it into a feminine and delicate looking piece of jewelry.  And lockets, I’m crazy about lockets.  Which is why when my new and dear friend Kearsie approached me about this giveaway, I was happy to donate these little locket earrings to the cause.  Thank you and good luck, everyone!”

This giveaway is for one pair of two heart shaped vintage brass lockets with flowers and vines etched into the front hang from simple raw brass hooks.

Paying it forward

Last month, my dear friend Insanity Kim did a giveaway on her blog.  It was a Pay It Forward giveaway and I was a winner.  The rules were to comment and commit to doing a giveaway of something I had.  I got this awesome Scrabble tile necklace:

It says LAUGH. I love it.

It says LAUGH. I love it.

So, in order to fulfill my end of the giveaway, I must do a giveaway for you, my wonderful readers.

The first 3 people to comment and promise to pay it forward, I shall send you some handmade hand-knitted goodies.  I shan’t tell you what it is, it shall be a surprise.

Also, please leave me a safe way to contact you.  Nothing like behind the Piggly Wiggly at midnight, preferrably your email so I can contact you privately for your mailing address.

And if you don’t host a blog like this one here, you can still participate.  Just pay it forward in your own special way.  Leave a bigger tip, open doors for folks who won’t even thank you, tell someone how much you appreciate them.  There are lots of ways to pay it forward.

Deal?

Deep breaths

I am having a panic attack.

Well, I don’t know if I’m actually having a panic attack, because I’ve never had a real panic attack so I have nothing to compare this to.

I just submitted three of my posts to a humor contest. I have this girl to blame. She made me do it. Well…not really. Actually she just sent me the link to the contest and said she was going to enter too. So really it was like peer pressure. Well…not really, but I was interested and comforted she was entering too.

Geez, I’m blathering.

(Editor’s note: blather is such a fun word. Also a fun word: frock. We should totally make this a retro word and bring it back.)

I went to lunch with my husband yesterday and confessed to him that I felt weird about entering the contest.

ME: I feel so weird! Like I just bared my breasts to the judges and now I’m just waiting for them to look at me and say, meh.

LANCE: You have nice breasts.

Sigh. He doesn’t get it. I’m slightly afraid you sweet readers won’t get it either. And I really hope no really godly people read this post and feel like they have to cleanse their eyes because I said breasts. It’s way better than vaginal.

I need to stop now.

**My pal, Jenny, is hosting a giveaway featuring her awesome and beautiful handmade jewelry. Visit her at Jenny Bunny Creations or Jenny Bunny on Etsy and pick your favorite item. Then copy and paste the link to that item and your email address on this post. The winner will be chosen on January 31, 2009 at noon. You can email her here if you want to leave her a love note. Enjoy!

I shall rap for you today

I got my big bottom jeans

and my loafers with no shine

over all I think I look fine

there’s just one care

I got to share

I forgot to blow blow blow blow blow dry my hair

Me + rap + fashion = totally whacked out situation.

I would like to say thank you to Jenny Bunny for inspiring this post with her comment about my new jeans.  I would like to thank Flo Rida for creating a kick butt song that makes white girls like me contort their bodies in effort to look like we’re dancing.  I’d like to thank the fine makers of Diet Coke, for making my mind alert this drowsy morning.  I’d also like to thank my husband for keeping me awake, listening to his creepy sleep talk, which freaked me out, especially when he laughed.  Also, my thanks to the brilliant makers of Blistex, for moisturizing my chapped lips and creating a faux-lip gloss shine.  And finally, my thanks to you diligent readers, for reading this bizarre and obtuse post.

Happy Friday!

Oh!  If you like giveaways, and who doesn’t like free stuff, there are a couple I’ll hook you up with.  WendiWinn has one featuring yours truly, giving away 7 hand-knitted face scrubbies and a box of Biore Nose Strips.  All you have to do is find a post on this here blog and comment and then go to her site and comment that you’ve commented.  See?  Supa easy.  Here’s the post which tells you all the rules and fine print and junk.

My other good buddy Kim is hosting another giveaway featuring her friend Avalee‘s Scrabble necklace.  You can read about that hereThe necklace shall be mine, oh yes, it shall be mine.
